Vinayak Kumar, aged 21, is a student who also does a daily wager job. He lives with his widowed mother. His financial condition is very poor and his total family income is less than Rs 3500 per month. But after attending the Functional Literacy Programme designed by CII, Vinayak Kumar has learned to read and write all the English alphabets and numbers. He can spell the names of each of his family members and can also sign. He can now read newspapers and can write anything to express himself. He is now capable of doing banking transactions after NACDAOR helped him with his first banking transaction. He can now calculate and helps others in his family and among relatives to do the same. He now uses the google pay app for his online transactions. He now explores the government schemes which he was taught through the program online. He has now made his bio-data and is searching online for jobs on the government portals. He said that the program was a life-changing experience and he has asked his other friends who are working with him to join the classes. “the best part of the program was that I was getting to learn all this new technology using projector and laptops for absolutely free in the time slots which was convenient for me as I have to work to earn money. I was encouraged to take regular classes which was a huge task as contractual duties don’t allow holidays yet I was able to take a class for around 40 days.”
